Dental Implants can provide the ideal solution to those who have lost their teeth through injury or decay. An implant consists of a root portion (the implant itself) which connects to the crown (the tooth portion) via a screw and/or an abutment.
The implant requires surgical placement in the jawbone (carried out in the surgery) followed by a period of healing, usually about 3 months and then the placement of the dental crown.
At the Old Quarter Dental surgery, we offer BioHorizon Implant Systems. The BioHorizon implant system is a standard, screw retained implant from the USA. It has a long history of successful implantation and comes fully guaranteed.
FAQs about Dental Implants
Implants are placed in the jaw so there is no need to damage adjacent teeth as with bridges. Implants provide a much more stable bite than dentures and in addition implants maintain the bone levels which over time would be reduced under a denture or bridge.
Placement of the root portion (implant) takes one visit. The bone is then given time to heal for approximately 3 months, after which the implant is restored with an abutment and crown. Normally, the implant procedure is complete within 3-4 visits.
There is no charge for failed implants. We will offer to redo the implant or provide an alternative solution where possible.
Anyone over the age of 18 and in good general health is suitable. Heavy smokers or anyone with an underlying medical condition will need to discuss the treatment with their dentist.
Implants can replace single or multiple teeth. Implants can also support a denture making it much more retentive and allow you to eat foods you were previously unable to chew.
As with all surgical procedures, some pain and swelling after placement is normal.
